My name is Patricia Nolen Stevenson, and I created eLearnEnglish.com to help adult English learners build English skills they can use in real life.
My goal is to make learning English clear, practical, and encouraging.

Who I Help
I help adult English learners, especially immigrants and newcomers, who need English for:
- everyday life
- work
- school and education
- conversations
- living independently
- feeling more confident using English
Many of the learners I care about are hardworking adults who are trying to build a better life.
Learning English as an adult can be difficult. It can feel stressful or embarrassing when you need to speak and you are not sure what to say.
If you feel this way, you are not alone.
You do not need to know everything before you start using English. You can learn one useful skill at a time.
Why I became an English teacher
My work with English learners began about 20 years ago in Atlanta.
I volunteered with an international organization that welcomed groups of international students visiting the city. During holidays, volunteers invited students and staff into their homes so they could experience American traditions, everyday life, and English in a personal setting.
Later, I invited several international students to live in my home while they studied English at a local university.
These experiences taught me a lot.
I saw that learning English is about much more than grammar and vocabulary.
People also need to understand what others are saying, know how to respond, and feel comfortable using English in everyday situations.
I never forgot those experiences.
They led me to continue my education and later work as an English teacher and tutor. They also inspired me to create eLearnEnglish.com.
How I can help
At eLearnEnglish, my goal is to make English learning clear and practical.
I believe adults learn best when they understand:
- what they are learning
- why they need it
- how they can use it
- what to learn next
That is why I try to keep my teaching practical, organized, and encouraging.

My education and teaching experience
I have an undergraduate degree in English and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Applied Linguistics is the study of how people learn and use language.
I have taught college students who were learning English as a second language. I have taught:
- reading
- writing
- grammar
- listening and speaking
- pronunciation
Over time, I wanted to help more people outside the traditional classroom.
I learned about online teaching and publishing and began creating resources that English learners could use from anywhere.
That is why I started eLearnEnglish.com.
